Athletics : Tears of joy and a historic bronze medal for Benin

Noélie Yarigo is a Beninese athlete who, after a 20-year career, gave her country their first international athletics medal.

She let tears of joy flow for this well-deserved bronze in the 800 meters.

Her patience and determination ended up paying off with a beautiful bronze medal to mark this historic first for Benin.

She finished in the third position behind the British Jemma Reekie and the Ethiopian Tsiga Duguma. Go ladies, go!

Back home, she was welcomed like a queen with a crowd at the airport. It is also in its lounge that she was welcomed by Mr. Benoît Dato, the Minister of Sports, with a beautiful bouquet to congratulate her.

She also received military honors as well as a sum of 15 million CFA francs (approx. £19,600) for recognition of her historic performance.

For those who want the times, she ran 800 meters in 2:03.15 !

Well done Madam Champion!
